Mike Powell Brings NASCAR history to Groesbeck Grand Prix

NASCAR pit crew legend Mike Powell and his classic 1963 Ford Fairlane will be competing in the inaugural Groesbeck Grand Prix, September 5th-6th in Groesbeck, TX. Mike's career in NASCAR stretches back decades and includes driving his number 15 Ford Fairlane and #9 Oldsmobile Daytona Dash Series Car from 1978-1985 at NASCAR sanctioned races across the South, winning races at Caraway, North Wilkesboro, and Birmingham.

Mike was also the co-owner of Tex Racing Enterprises where in addition to running the day to day operations built transmission, rear ends, and fabricated body panels. On race days Mike could be found working on pit crews as a tire changer in NASCAR, IMSA, ARCA, and FIA at races around the world. Powell would pit work the pit box for drivers like AJ Foyt, Benny Parsons, Cale Yarborough, John Andretti, Buddy Baker, and many more.


Mike's car is a 1963 Ford Fairlane, that was originally built for short track racing in 1978, the race-winning car received a full restoration in 2019. Originally from Texas, Mike and his crew will be making the drive from Asheboro, North Carolina.
